The Deal with Hanging Bird Feeders
Hanging bird feeders are an ideal way to give food and temporary shelter for birds. There are times though when the number of birds that swoop down to the feeders are limited. When it comes to something like this, you can put the blame on the design of the feeder.

For example, a stationary platform feeder will likely to encourage doves and juncos. What comes out as unappealing to cardinals in this case are hanging squirrel proof bird feeder because they will not find it easy to perch on it. There are plenty of different feeders like duncraft bird feeders and suet bird feeders which cater to different species of birds.

A kind of feeder that is easy to set up is preferred by plenty of people, in this case, hanging bird feeders. Some people hang these feeders by the fence, on a roof, or sometimes even with a pole.

These kinds of feeders can also be hung up on tree branches. You need to consider the fact that by hanging the feeders on tree branches, you are giving the squirrels access to the food that is intended for the birds. As such, it is recommended to hang the feeder about 6 feet from any tree branch in case that there are any chipmunks or squirrels in the vicinity. In the case of hanging bird feeders, they utilize an open design. The wide base such as seen in Figure 1 is typically favored by most birds as their movement is not limited or restricted. Here is where the birds have a chance to sort through the food inside the feeder whenever they need to eat.

Another benefit of these feeders is that they add pizzazz to your home. There are many designs to choose from that can definitely perk up the surroundings. You might also want to add bird baths and bird drinking stations when you set up your bird feeders.

You can decide to place them at one location for some time and then move them later on and this is another great thing about hanging bird feeders. If you notice that birds do not come because of their food competitors, you can place the feeder to a much higher location so that birds can have more peaceful mealtimes.

It is important that you take note of your bird visitors to see to it that the feed you are buying is the right one for them.

When you fill your feeders, be sure to do so early in the morning and late in the evening. Consider this and the birds will be thankful. During winter, your feeders play a very important role in keeping birds nourished and well-fed. You are doing a great thing when you hang bird feeders plus your home gets that extra beautifying boost. You probably can’t wait to hear the chirping birds now. What you have here is a thank you from the birds.
